Choosing the Right Size of Binoculars

The size of binoculars that will be best suited to your needs, will depend on a few factors.

How much magnification do you need? If you are planning to look at objects from very long distances you will likely need a higher level of magnification. Higher levels of magnification like 10x or higher generally require greater light capturing capabilities, meaning larger heavier optical devices with larger heavier objective lenses. This increase in size and light gathering capabilities is necessary for a higher powered model to give an image quality that is equal to a lower powered model, all else being equal.

Are You going to use your Models for an activity that requires you to do a lot of moving around? Big sports optics with large diameter objective lenses tend to be heavier than and more difficult to carry and move around. For these reasons, most experience hunters, birdwatchers etc..choose a pair around 35mm in diameter or smaller because of the portability and comfort factors. Do you plan on using your binoculars at night? Or, at anytime other than broad daylight, like twilight or dawn? Larger objective lenses almost always give a sharper brighter image in conditions where the lighting is sub-optimal, this is one of the reasons why the military often chooses 7x50 Models.
